Style individual words or phrases, and add footnotes and references within text.
AI-assisted, human-approvednovem uses AI to review and keep our documentation up to date.
Available in: documents and e-mails.
Styled spans
Put the text between [[ and ]], then add a config suffix:
Status: [[Operational]]{fg: green-600}.
[[Action required]]{fg: red-600, st: b} before Friday.
[[Highlighted text]]{bg: yellow-200, fg: gray-900, sz: l}.
The suffix uses the same keys as styled blocks and heading attributes. Separate keys with commas or semicolons. Span content supports nested inline Markdown:
[[This is **bold blue** text.]]{fg: blue-600}
[[An *italic* and _underlined_ phrase.]]{bg: gray-100}
Theme colours respond to light and dark mode. Hex literals keep the same
colour in both modes. Use --light or --dark to pin a named token.
See the block styling keys for accepted values.
Footnotes and references
Typed annotations use a colon inside the brackets:
The estimate is provisional [[ftn: Figures use fictional sample data.]].
Source: [[ref: Example Research Institute, Annual Survey 2026]].
Footnotes and references support inline formatting. Documents collect footnotes and reference entries; e-mails render annotations inline.
