Summary
Directional estimate of Claude Code ARR and developer adoption from May 2025 to May 2026
Description
Methodology
This chart is a directional model of Claude Code growth, not a financial disclosure. It blends disclosed revenue milestones, public adoption signals, survey data, and interpolation. The ARR line is stronger than the user line because Anthropic has disclosed several Claude Code revenue milestones; developer user counts remain modeled.
Harder Anchors
- May 2025 — Claude Code became generally available to the public around Anthropic's Code with Claude launch window.
- Nov 2025 — Anthropic disclosed that Claude Code reached $1B run-rate revenue about six months after public availability.
- Feb 12, 2026 — Anthropic disclosed Claude Code run-rate revenue had grown to over $2.5B, more than doubled since Jan 1, 2026. Anthropic also said weekly active Claude Code users had doubled since Jan 1, business subscriptions had quadrupled, enterprise use represented over half of Claude Code revenue, and a third-party analysis estimated Claude Code authored 4% of public GitHub commits worldwide.
- Apr 2026 — Multiple revenue analyses put Anthropic overall at roughly $30B annualized run-rate, up from $9B at year-end 2025 and $14B in Feb 2026. Claude Code's April ARR is estimated from its known Feb run-rate, enterprise mix, and reports that coding was a major driver of Anthropic's growth.
- May 6, 2026 — Anthropic announced a SpaceX compute deal and doubled Claude Code five-hour rate limits for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans, while removing peak-hour limit reductions for Pro and Max. This is treated as a demand/capacity signal, not a direct revenue disclosure.
ARR Assumptions
- ARR means annualized run-rate: recent monthly revenue multiplied by 12.
- May-Oct 2025 are interpolated from launch to the official Nov 2025 $1B milestone.
- Jan 2026 is kept below $1.25B because Anthropic said Feb 12 revenue was over $2.5B and had more than doubled since Jan 1.
- Feb 2026 is set to $2.6B to reflect Anthropic's "over $2.5B" statement.
- Mar-May 2026 are rough estimates. The model assumes Claude Code continued growing faster than Anthropic overall, but avoids treating Anthropic's full $30B ARR as Claude Code revenue. The May estimate is lifted modestly from April because Anthropic materially expanded Claude Code capacity in early May.
User Estimates
Anthropic has not published Claude Code MAU or total active developer count. The user line estimates developers actively or recently using Claude Code, not paid seats and not weekly active users.
Inputs include: Anthropic's statement that weekly active Claude Code users doubled between Jan 1 and Feb 12; VS Code marketplace install comparisons showing Claude Code ahead of OpenAI Codex in Feb 2026; JetBrains AI Pulse reporting 18% Claude Code work usage and 57% awareness among professional developers in Jan 2026; and later signals from Amazon and other enterprise deployments. The model assumes a global professional developer base of roughly 28M and discounts survey usage because surveys overrepresent AI-forward developers.
Current Modeled Points
- Nov 2025: ~$1.0B ARR, ~3.6M developers
- Feb 2026: ~$2.6B ARR, ~6.0M developers
- Apr 2026: ~$5.6B ARR, ~7.6M developers
- May 2026: ~$6.8B ARR, ~8.2M developers
All figures are approximate and should be treated as directional estimates. Data current as of May 11, 2026.
