Power price today, on the map

Today's average day-ahead price in each of Norway's five bidding zones, as a custom D3 choropleth on the same colour ramp as the heatmap ("darker is dearer"). Hover over or click a zone to see its detail: today's average, the change against the last 30 days, and today's hourly profile with its low and high hours. Static renders (e-mail, PDF) show the most expensive zone.

How it's built

The source is src/plots/power-map/index.js. Zone outlines come from src/plots/power-map/zones.json, built by make geo: Kartverket's municipalities (CC BY 4.0, clipped to the coastline) are each assigned to the bidding zone they overlap most in the entsoe-py outlines (MIT), then merged per zone. esbuild inlines the result into custom.js. The plot reads the theme from render.theme, so it follows light and dark mode in every embed.

Data is one row per zone: date,zone,area,today,avg30,h0..h23.

Kept live

The render step of the strompriser job (job/main.py in the onboarding repo) rewrites the data twice a day from the strompriser space: a dataset of Nord Pool day-ahead prices that the job's ingest step keeps current. Prices come from the free hvakosterstrommen.no API, in NOK/kWh excluding VAT and grid tariffs.
